FACTS 

Description:

April-May 2024. 317 trees are being cut down for the construction of two roundabouts at N 145th and I-5; and the renovation of N 145th, Phase 1, from Corliss to the I-5 Interchange Project. The trees along the north side of N 145th have been cut down. The next round of tree removal begins on May 4, cutting down the trees along the south side of N 145th and along the on-ramps and exits of I-5.

TIMELINE

  • Planning: Public open houses and surveys from 2015 to 2022, no mention about tree removal. 

  • Design: 2018 and 2019: City of Shoreline, WSDOT, Sound Transit, City of Seattle, King County Metro. 

  • Project at 30% design in spring 2019; 60% design in spring 2021. 

  • City planners aware in April 2021 there would be a major removal of trees

  • Public Works announcement to the public about the removal of 317 trees: October 26, 2023.

  • Construction contract awarded Dec 11, 2023. Construction began February 2024 ; work expected to be completed by October 2025. 

Additional projects along N 145th; 139 more trees to be removed: 

  • PHASE 2 (Wallingford east to Corliss) 2024-2027; $23 million. 

  • PHASE 3 (Linden Ave N to Wallingford) 2026-2029; $18 million.
